How to Prepare Your Car for a Road Trip

If you are planning to take your family for a road trip you will need to take a few precautions before you go. We are not just talking about packing the lunch and not forgetting the youngest child in the bathroom, we are talking about taking your car for a roadworthy test. In fact you should take your car for a test every few months, even if you are not planning to go on a road trip. the road worthy test though, you will need to do a few other things, or you will be stuck in the middle of now where, and that is one thing you do not want to happen. So there are different thing you need to do for a summer road trip and there are different things you need to do for a winter road trip. Many of these things you can find out only, or your could go to your nearest mechanic to find out a few other things, some of these things, however, will be looked at in brief below.

The first thing you need to do is make an appointment with you mechanic, you do not want your holiday postponed because your car failed the road worthy test, so have a mechanic look over your car first. The checklist you need to hand to him, or rather the things you will have him look over are as follows, and he will need to check the oils, rather fluids of the car. He will have to also check all hoses and belts, including seat belts, check if there are any leaks in any part of the system, check that the air in all your tires are okay and if not get them filled, and please do not forget the spare tire in the trunk, also make sure you have a spare tire in the truck and make sure that is has no punctures, also ask him to perform a full four wheel break check. You will also need him to check the condition of you cars exhaust system, and also check and flush out the cooling system, he will then also check for any leaks in the cooling system, other things he will need to check is the battery, the alternator output and the spark plugs.
